In the NOZ's 360° Talk, Johannes Busmann and Matthias Schreiber (Umweltforum Osnabrücker Land) discussed how the expansion of wind energy and species protection in the district of Osnabrück can be better combined.
The discussion focused on the use of so-called replacement payments from wind energy projects. By law, these funds are earmarked for species protection measures, but so far they have often been transferred to supra-regional programmes such as nationwide funding instruments.
Both Prowind and the Umweltforum are in favour of pooling these funds more strongly in the region in future and using them specifically on site. The aim is to implement concrete measures in the district and thereby achieve greater effectiveness for nature and biodiversity.
Despite different viewpoints, the conversation made one thing clear: there is agreement on the “whether”. Expanding wind energy is central to climate protection, security of supply and economic stability.
The discussion is therefore increasingly focusing on the “how”:
A key proposal from the dialogue is to revive a “round table” in the district of Osnabrück. The aim of such a format would be to bring together project developers, approval authorities and nature conservation stakeholders in order to:
Such a structured exchange could help to use the available funds more effectively and at the same time further increase acceptance of wind energy projects.
Prowind's goal is to consistently expand renewable energy while actively helping to shape solutions for species protection. The company is already implementing concrete measures in the region, for example by creating habitats for various species.
Dialogue with local stakeholders is a decisive lever for implementing projects sustainably and in harmony with nature and society.
