The dismantling of the wind turbine damaged by fire in Bad Bentheim on January 1, 2025 has been successfully completed. After intensive planning and close coordination with the responsible authorities, the work was finalized today.
The dismantling was carried out by Neowa, which, with its experience, ensured a safe and efficient process. The focus was on using the dismantling materials as environmentally friendly as possible — in line with our sustainability principle. The majority of the metal parts, including the steel tower, are completely recycled. The rotor blades are also recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.
“Safety and environmental protection were our top priorities. We would like to thank all partners involved for their professional cooperation,” says Johannes Busmann, managing director of Prowind GmbH.
The clean-up work around the plant is already ongoing and is expected to be completed by the end of March. In doing so, we pay particular attention to protecting nature: The local bird breeding and setting season is taken into account in order to avoid interference with wildlife. The foundation of the burnt plant remains on site for the time being and is removed or reused at a later date. A so-called repowering measure is already planned for the site. This involves replacing older plants with modern, more powerful wind turbines — an important step towards greater efficiency and climate protection.
About the background: On the evening of January 1, 2025, a Vestas V-80 wind turbine caught fire at around 7:30pm for reasons that have not yet been explained. Fortunately, people or surrounding buildings were not endangered. Due to necessary reports and logistical preparations, dismantling could only begin in February — a usual time frame in such cases. The exact cause of the fire is currently still being investigated, as the gondola has not yet been able to be entered.
