Tailwind solutions — Our biggest project to date in Emsdetten
You can think in terms of problems — or even in terms of solutions. In Emsdetten, we opted for the latter early on. Since 2002, we have designed a total of 21 wind turbines there — a sign of our long-term commitment to the energy revolution. Eight of these turbines are now in our own operation and form the heart of our largest project to date. The eight GE 2.5-120 wind turbines, each with a rotor diameter of 120 meters and a nominal output of 2,500 kW, together deliver a total installed output of 20,000 kW. This means that around 19,589 households can be reliably supplied with clean electricity.
The implementation was characterized by challenges that we overcame with creative solutions and working together in partnership — whether in dialogue with authorities, in species protection or in involving a wide variety of stakeholders such as land owners and residents. This close cooperation was the basis for the successful expansion of the wind farm in 2014/2015.
Another strong signal: broad public participation. As part of the ProKlima concept of the city of Emsdetten, interested parties were able to participate starting at just 2,000 euros. 115 private investors and numerous regional farmers jointly invested over 4.5 million euros in their own community wind farm. A total of around 150 people from the region are currently benefiting directly from the economic return of the project — with a return of six percent in the first full year of operation.
Emsdetten is therefore not only our largest project, but also one of our most citizen-oriented projects — and a real showcase model for integrated energy solutions in line with the Steinfurt EnergyLand 2050 climate concept.
