In the first quarter of 2016, a special project became reality in the west of the Lower Saxony municipality of Merzen: The “Fahlen Knüven” wind farm began operations. A name that may seem unusual at first glance — and that is precisely why it stays in the memory. But behind this illustrious name is much more than just a name on the map: it is a symbol of responsible energy generation, genuine cooperation and the future viability of our region.
Since then, four modern GE 2.5-120 wind turbines have been turning reliably into the sky. With an impressive hub height of 120 meters and a total height of 180 meters — including rotor blades — they together deliver a clean nominal output of 10 megawatts. In doing so, they not only make an important contribution to the energy revolution, but also show how powerful and efficient wind energy can be today.
But cleanly generated energy doesn't just start when the systems are switched on — it starts with clean, well-thought-out planning. For us at Prowind, that means we listen. We take the concerns of local people seriously and actively integrate them into the planning process. It's about more than just approvals — it's about mutual understanding, trust and respect.
Protecting nature also plays a central role in this. Extensive environmental assessments were carried out even during project development. The habitats of birds and bats have been carefully investigated and appropriate protective measures have been taken. Today, an automatic shut-off system ensures that the systems pause at certain times to protect animals — a good example of how technology and nature conservation can be combined in a meaningful way.
A wind farm like “Fahlen Knüven” is only successful if it is built on a strong foundation of partnership and joint responsibility. A special step shows that this concept is convincing: Volksbank Osnabrücker Nordland has not only recognized the potential of this project, but has also actively participated in it. She took over one of the four investments on her own responsibility — and even founded her own cooperative for this purpose. A strong sign of sustainable commitment in the region.
Today, “Fahlen Knüven” symbolizes what drives us at Prowind: creating clean energy for tomorrow with passion and responsibility — together with local people.
